David completed a traditional five-year apprenticeship and has restored pianos since 1994. Factory training with Yamaha and Fazioli informs how we read each instrument before rebuilding it.

- Soundboard cracks Small cracks may be shimmed and refinished; extensive cracking may call for replacement

Pinblock duplication
The pinblock must hold the tuning pins securely while allowing exact tuning adjustments. We have experience duplicating full-perimeter, three-piece, and mortised pinblocks, from fitting through drilling.
Action and back action
A responsive action begins with well-chosen hammers, shanks, flanges, and repetitions. We use custom weigh-off and regulation to establish consistent touch and sound across the keyboard.

David is known in the piano community as “the fixer.” With roughly 150 years of modern piano manufacturing across hundreds of makers, no two rebuilding problems are exactly alike. Other technicians contact him for ideas, advice, and partnership on difficult projects.
His woodworking experience carries into the fit, finish, and detail of every restoration. We look at the piano as one instrument, not as disconnected replacement parts.
